A photo taken on October 10, 2016 wrenched the heart of China. It captured a couple’s bodies shielding their daughter, apparently at the moment when the home collapsed in Wenzhou, east China's Zhejiang province, on early Monday morning.
Twenty-two people have been confirmed dead so far, as rescue operation is still ongoing.
The disaster happened around 4 a.m. in Wenzhou's Lucheng industrial district.
As of 2:30 p.m., 15 people had been pulled from the debris, but only five survived, according to the district government.
Shielded by parents, the girl miraculously survived, but whether the couple will live remains to be seen.
Rescuers said the collapsed six-story buildings were built by villagers themselves. Five adjacent houses built in the 1970s remain standing, but rescuers are demolishing them to avoid secondary disasters.
