The Work Safety Committee of the State Council has issued a notification regarding the fatal Nov. 24 power plant accident in Fengcheng, Jiangxi province. The notification calls for relevant departments to address prominent issues in construction safety and immediately organize a special inspection group to prevent future accidents.
Drawing on hard lessons learned from the accident, the new notification puts forward specific requirements that include: carrying out a special inspection of construction accidents, implementing construction-related safety and regulatory responsibilities, punishing those responsible for construction accidents and implementing production safety measures beginning in 2017.
Seventy-four people have reportedly been confirmed dead and two more injured after a power plant's cooling tower platform collapsed while under construction on Nov. 24.
