On the morning of Dec. 28, a 64-year-old woman gave birth to a baby boy at the Second Hospital of Jilin University. With both mother and son doing well, many netizens have expressed their good wishes for the family.
According to an insider, the woman decided to become pregnant despite the high risks of a geriatric pregnancy after she and her husband lost their only child.
The chief doctor confirmed that with the help of a medical team, the woman gave birth to a baby boy weighing 3.7 kilograms, adding that conception was made possible by a special procedure to rejuvenate the uterus, since the woman had stopped menstruating 10 years ago.

Generally speaking, older mothers-to-be face greater physical challenges, some of which can be fatal. In this case, the woman was diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus and total placenta praevia during her pregnancy. She strictly followed her doctor’s orders, submitted to regular testing and maintained a happy mood throughout her pregnancy, all of which likely contributed to her successful delivery.
The woman's doctor admitted that he had never heard of a woman older than his patient giving birth, so she might have set a new record.
