A recent survey found that 61.5 percent of respondents believe China has made great progress in manufacturing in the past 10 years, and 65.1 percent approve of Chinese communication equipment like cellphones, China Youth Daily reported on Feb. 9.
The survey, conducted online by the social investigation center of China Youth Daily, reached 2,000 respondents. Of the respondents, 49.8 percent were male and 50.2 percent female. Those born in the 1980s accounted for 52.2 percent, followed by those born after 1970 (20.2 percent). After that came those born after 1990 (19.3 percent), 1960 (6.5 percent) and 2000 (0.6 percent).
The survey showed that most respondents consider China-made products completely acceptable, with only 8.5 percent saying otherwise. The top three most approved categories were communication equipment like cellphones (65.1 percent), aerospace equipment (55.4 percent) and transportation equipment like high-speed trains (54.1 percent). Other categories included bridge construction equipment (53.9 percent), household appliances (51.6 percent) and toys and other small commodities (22.9 percent).
More than 50 percent of respondents expressed the belief that China-made products are relatively inexpensive and high-quality; 69.5 percent suggested that China attach more importance to intellectual property protection as well as research and development of core technology. In addition, 54.4 percent claimed that innovation should be encouraged to inject vitality into Chinese manufacturing. Other suggestions included improving the quality of workers in the manufacturing industry and increasing the commercial application of scientific research.
