
HO CHI MINH CITY, March 17 -- Vietnam's top chess player topped the international chess tournament, which concluded here on Friday, while three Chinese men ranked the second, the third and the fourth place.
On Friday, Chinese grand master Bu Xiangzhi tied with his compatriot Wei Yi after 21 moves, finishing the second at the tournament.
Defending champion Wang Hao from China ranked the third and his compatriot Wei Yi the fourth.
Vietnamese grand master Le Quang Liem on Friday defeated Ukraine man Bogdanovich Stanislav with 79 moves in over four hours.
The Vietnamese player had seven points after five wins and four draws and grabbed prizes of 13,000 U.S. dollars.
In the women's events, Saduakassova Dinara from Kazathstan, Stefanova Antoaneta from Bulgaria and Li Ruofan from Singapore finished the first, second, and third at the tournament, respectively.
A total of 240 chess players from 25 countries and regions in five continents competed at the tournament named HDBank 2017 in Ho Chi Minh City from March 8-17.
