A survey has found that 55.7 percent of young people in China believe their lives will be positively affected by the Belt and Road Initiative.
According to the survey, which was administered to 2,000 people aged 18 to 35 by China Youth Daily, 65.6 percent are confident that the initiative will create more jobs, while 82.1 percent say they hope for more plans for international talent exchange.
Yang Dengyun, a junior at Beijing Institute of Technology, said he used to think the initiative was distant from his real life, but now he believes the policy is closely related to the everyday lives of himself and others. Chen Fan (pseudonym), a sophomore studying Arabic at Beijing Foreign Studies University, said the Belt and Road Initiative will create more demand for minority-language speakers.
“I feel there are more job opportunities awaiting me; for instance, I can support various 'Belt and Road' business negotiations,” Chen explained.
Respondents say the Belt and Road Initiative will create more job vacancies in tourism, culture, education, engineering, construction and other sectors. They believe that energy, transportation and the internet will also be major fields.
Many expect that Pakistan, Russia and Thailand will be the top three "pivot countries" involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, followed by Mongolia, South Korea, Kazakhstan and Indonesia.
