KUNSHAN, China, June 16 -- China defeated Turkey in straight sets as the 2017 FIVB men's volleyball World League opened its third week in Kunshan, an eastern China city, on Friday.
Jiang Chuan carried most of the load of the Chinese offense with a match-high 17 points, including the two final points with his high-flying spikes.
Gungor Baturalp Burak and Gokgoz Gokhan scored 15 points each for Turkey, but not good enough to stop China claim their first win in Kunshan.
The first set witnessed a seesawed rise of the score, with China triumphed with 43-41. Turkey tried to claw back in the second and led at 15-11, but a rearrangement of strategy was implemented by China , and China launched a 5-1 run to take the upper hand back and win the set 26-24.
Turkey's setter Eksi Arsian injured his finger in the third set which made it more difficult for the Turkey team. China won25-21.
"In the third set, our captain is injured during the game, which is quit difficult for us," said Joshko Milenkoski, the headcoach of Turkey, "because you know a setter is very important to a team. We met too much injury this year, which is our biggest problems. But the young players get the chance to show themselves on court, which is a good thing, because our goal this year is the European championship."
Raul Lozano, the first foreign coach of the Chinese men's team, praised the Chinese players' teamwork, saying "We played like a team in the game, which is a good sign. I am satisfied that the players kept calm during the game when they meet problems and tried to solve them."
"This is the first time that the new Chinese team played in China. In the first set, the players were quite nervous, they made a lot of mistakes., but they managed to overcome it. China have many young players, I think they had great potential," added Lozano. Enditem
