Students from Xiangxiang No. 1 Middle School waded in floodwater toward safe zones on Sunday, July 2. Floodwaters entered the school’s dormitory building at 10 a.m. on Saturday and rose waist high by 6 a.m. the next day. The school told students to evacuate the building and requested assistance from the local government, which dispatched boats to assist in the evacuation.
