Construction of the main part of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Project has just been completed on the bridge, artificial islands and undersea tunnel. It is hailed as the critical part of the entire project due to its engineering difficulty and quantity.
The bridge under construction in south China spans 55 kilometers to link up Zhuhai of southern Guangdong Province with the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao. The project consists of a genuine bridge of 22.9 kilometers, a 6.7-km undersea tunnel and two oyster-shaped artificial islands to help connect the bridge and tunnel. The bridge will accommodate a dual three-lane carriageway.
