The tweet on Weibo and Wechat

The official Weibo and Wechat accounts of the People’s Daily on July 7 wrote a tweet targeting India: borderline is bottom line. The tweet, which was intended to be a strong response to the India’s trespass into Chinese territory, has attracted a lot of attention.

Indian soldiers crossed the China-India border into Chinese territory and obstructed work on a road in the Doklam area on June 16. The standoff between the two countries has lasted several weeks.

At regular press conferences held by Chinese Foreign Affairs Ministry, spokespersons reiterated that Doklam has always been part of China's territory and under its effective jurisdiction, and demanded that India respect China’s territorial sovereignty and immediately withdraw the Indian troops illegally trespassing on the Chinese side of the border.

An article in People’s Daily Online presented a series of facts proving that the Indian government acknowledged there are no historical disputes regarding the boundary in the Sikkim section of the China-India borderline. The article also cited an editorial from the People’s Daily dated September 22, 1962, titled, “If This Can Be Tolerated, What Cannot?” which said the Chinese people would not tolerate the provocation by the Indian Army.
