Sales volume of China’s games market reached 99.78 billion yuan ($14.8 billion) in the first half of 2017, increasing 26.7% year-on-year, said a report on the country’s gaming industry.
The report was jointly issued by China’s Game Publishers Association Publications Committee, CNG, and International Data Corporation on July 26.
According to the report, the industry’s half-year incremental revenue of 21.03 billion yuan is the highest among those achieved since 2009.
Though China now has 507 million game players, the growth rate of the population slowed in the first half of this year, suggesting that the Chinese gaming industry is gradually losing its influence among that demographic and the scale of users has stabilized.
The report says that the revenue of the mobile gaming sector is still growing and accounted for 56.3% of the total gaming revenue.
Meanwhile, China saw 435 million mobile game users in the first 6 months of 2017, a 7.5% increase year-on-year. Though the growth rate of the population has slowed, mobile gaming is still the largest market segment of the industry, thanks to the popularization of smart phones and products such as movies and TV dramas.
In the first half of the year, the actual sales revenue of the top-10 mobile games in the Chinese market accounted for 54.9% of the total income of China’s mobile gaming sector, revealing a more concentrated market.
In addition, the e-sports market continues to develop. Effective sales reached 35.99 billion yuan, up 43.2% compared with the same period of last year. The mobile e-sports sector surged 100.6% to 17.65 billion yuan, accounting for nearly a third of all mobile gaming revenue.
