BEIDAIHE, Hebei, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official called on the country's leading scientists to remain steadfast in making innovations in science and technology on Wednesday.
Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at a meeting with 57 scientists and experts who are enjoying a state-sponsored summer vacation at Beidaihe, a popular northern seaside resort near the Chinese national capital.
Entrusted by President Xi Jinping, Liu extended greetings and good wishes to the scientists and experts.
Liu urged them to make more efforts in innovation to help China boost its voice in the world and contribute to the realization of the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation.
Specialists should carry forward the excellent tradition of the older generation of scientists and learn from role models such as Huang Danian, a late geophysicist who devoted his life to making contributions in education and scientific research, Liu said.
Liu encouraged them to serve the people and the country, and greet the opening of the 19th CPC National Congress with outstanding results.
