Senior Chinese official Liu Yunshan Thursday asked publishers to have confidence in Chinese culture and promote the country to become a strong power in publication industry.
Liu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks while visiting the 24th Beijing International Book Fair.
Publishers should pay more attention to content and improve their abilities in international communication to maintain the prosperous development of the industry, Liu said.
The top priorities for China's publication industry at present are to publish high-quality works and create a good atmosphere ahead of the 19th CPC National Congress, he said.
Liu asked publishers to carry forward the spirit of innovation, deepen industrial reform, and integrate traditional methods with digital publication.
During a visit to a photographic exhibition jointly held by Xinhua News Agency and the Islamic Republic News Agency, Liu expressed his hope that China and Iran can seize the opportunity provided by the Belt and Road Initiative to broaden publishing cooperation and expand people-to-people communication.
The book fair, which runs from Aug. 23 to 27, has attracted 2,511 exhibitors at home and abroad.
