A mountain tunnel whose top has been painted to look like a blue sky and white clouds opened to the public on Dec. 18 in southwestern China’s Chongqing municipality, Chongqing Economic Times reported.
The construction of the tunnel commenced in 2013. It is the 15th major mountain tunnel constructed in the main city of Chongqing.
With an investment of 2.245 billion RMB, the 7.1-kilometer tunnel is a two-way road with six lanes.

The painted top of the tunnel is a major highlight of the project. The sky and clouds painting emerges every one kilometer in the tunnel, refreshing the drivers with the bright colors.
The design is believed to help ease the visual fatigue of the drivers that stems from long-distance rides in tunnels, thus improving road safety.
