

A farmer's painting
Farmers in villages of city of Quzhou in Zhejiang province have improved their economic circumstances through Chinese calligraphy and painting creation, China News reported on Dec. 21.
The majority of people in Dongxiang Village, which is now a calligraphy village of the province, learned Chinese calligraphy, and a calligraphy street was built to display their works, attracting lots of visitors from home and abroad.
Similarly, farmers in Yudong Village also improved their quality of life by painting.
Supported by the local government, the farmers sell their paintings and related goods on e-commerce platforms. The works bring the villagers an income of about 5 million yuan ($759,640) each year.
The farmers’ artistic works reflect their cultural confidence and help to promote the city’s cultural reform and development, Qian Weigang, an official with the city government noted.
