Scientists from Beijing Institute of Genomics (BIG) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences have discovered the genetic loci that relate to human hair forms, Science and Technology Daily reported on Dec. 22.
The research result has been published in the international science journal Human Molecular Genetics.
The scientists discovered 8 new genetic loci linked to human hair forms, after researching 30,000 forms of hair and analyzing the relation between the hair forms and 8 million genetic loci.
The findings will help to improve the genetic understanding of variation of human hair forms.
In addition, the results indicate that Asians have a different genetic structure in their hair forms from other people in the world, said Liu Fan, a researcher with BIG.
The researcher added that the results could be applied in forensic medicine and the cosmetic field.
