Photos of an old man holding a ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his marriage with his wife who is currently lying unconscious on a hospital bed have touched many hearts.

On Feb. 7, the elderly couple was surrounded by medical staff inside the room of a hospital in east China’s Zhejiang province. The attendees were moved to tears when the old man spoke to his wife softly and put a ring on her finger.

79-year-old Gu has been taking care of his 75-year-old wife Wang for three years. They had initially planned to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, but three years ago, Wang was taken to the hospital after a serious brain hemorrhage.

Gu didn’t disclose their full names. But during the past three years, the old man was at the hospital every day except for the three days when he was sick.

“As long as there is a slim chance she’ll wake up and recover, I won’t give up on her,” Gu said.
