Kwame Hackman

Studying in China is now a trend in the African country of Ghana, and 39-year-old Kwame Hackman is one of many Ghanaians who have travelled to China in pursuit of education.

Hackman graduated from the Department of Earth System Science at Tsinghua University last year, with the aim of achieving greater things for Ghana. He is the first Ghanaian doctoral graduate of Tsinghua University.

After graduation, Hackman closed the door on working overseas, instead choosing to focus on his hometown – Kumasi, the second largest city in Ghana. He is now a researcher at the Building and Road Research Institute of Ghana.

“The urgent need of my country is to train more high-end professionals,” Hackman told Xinhua News Agency.

“I’m trained by China, and I hope to pass on my knowledge and skills and better construct my country,” he added.

More and more Ghanaian students are following Hackman’s footsteps after graduating from Chinese universities, to further promote the social and economic development of their country, as well as use their expertise to further the friendly cooperation between Ghana and China.
