

With Mid-Autumn Festival just around the corner, people all over China are getting ready for a celebration with family and friends. While every family celebrates differently, there will be one attendee making an appearance on most dinner tables this September.
We are, of course, talking about the mooncake! Chinese mooncakes are small pastries filled with a thick filling, the round shape of which symbolizes family and togetherness. During Mid-Autumn Festival, people will cut up and share these autumnal treats with their loved ones.

Typical fillings include lotus seed paste and salted duck egg, red bean and five-nut and pork, and are usually served with tea. Due to globalization, the mooncake has found its way overseas to other parts of Asia and the west, prompting bakers to get creative with their fillings to appeal to a different audience.
