
BEIJING, March 9 (Xinhua) -- China has 271 laws currently in effect, with its legal system further improved over the past year, according to an official with the top legislature on Saturday.
Last year, the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee made eight new laws and 47 revisions to laws, Xu Anbiao, vice chairman of the Commission for Legislative Affairs of the 13th NPC Standing Committee, told a press briefing on the sidelines of the annual legislative session.
To date, the 13th NPC Standing Committee has put forward 116 legislative programs, including 48 pieces of legislation to be made and 68 to be amended. The standing committee will try to complete 69 pieces of legislation with mature conditions, and try its best to submit the other 47 for deliberation within its 5-year tenure, which runs until 2023, said Xu.
