Students majoring in crayfish studies at a vocational college in Qianjiang, Hubei province, have already secured employment in time for graduation. These new employees will enjoy an average monthly salary of more than 10,000 yuan ($1,488), a teacher at the school told Beijing Youth Daily on March 10.

The two-year crayfish studies major in Jianghan Art Vocational College was established in 2017, offering three courses in crayfish marketing, cooking and restaurant management. All 130 students have already been recruited as chefs or restaurant managers for star hotels or chain restaurants.

This year, the “crayfish school” plans to accept another 200 students. The candidates have to be under 40 years old, and the tuition is 5,000 yuan per year. Besides learning professional skills applicable to the restaurant industry, students also study English, IT and other public courses.

Experts in crayfish studies and famous Chinese chefs are invited to give guidance to students in this field.

According to the government work report 2019, China has a new target of enrolling one million students on vocational education courses this year.
