Chinese mothers are now teaming up to offer new educational experiences to their children, hoping to find a solution to challenges they face nowadays, such as a lack of individualized education, insufficient playmates, and the lack of company from other professional parents.
Under this new mode, professional mothers take turns organizing activities for their children according to their respective expertise, which enables the children to take part in extra-curriculum activities.
“It’s completely non-profit,” said Cai Mi, one of the mothers, adding that the events give children the opportunity to learn and play together.
A Beijing-based company engaged in organizing these “shared” activities told ThePaper.cn that over 3,000 mothers in Hangzhou, east China’s Zhejiang province, were registered on its platform, and more than 200 of them were frequent participants.
These type of group activities are prevalent in Hangzhou, as the lifestyle in the city is more comfortable than that in first-tier cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, which allows the mothers more time and energy to plan events.
Additionally, people in Hangzhou are generally more willing to share as it’s a city known for its highly-developed internet economy.
Cai introduced that thanks to this new model, her two children had more friends and could better communicate with the people around them.
“I can teach the other kids in the community while teaching my own, and it has given my life more fulfillment,” she noted.
To begin with, only three or four children took part in Cai’s activities, but now there are over 20. This new model also gives Cai an opportunity to share what she has learned, especially parenting knowledge that she acquired after she became a mother.
