The National Library of China and industry professionals launched a series of events on April 23 to mark World Book and Copyright Day and promote reading culture.
Ten winners of the 14th Wenjin Book Award were also announced at the ceremony that day.
The national-level comprehensive book award aims to recommend books to readers to encourage reading. Winners included social science books, science books and children’s books. Works by international authors translated into Chinese were also ranked among the winners, such as The World as I See It by Albert Einstein, A Beautiful Question: Finding Nature's Deep Design by Frank Wilczek and We Have No Idea: A Guide to the Unknown Universe by Jorge Cham and Daniel Whiteson.
Meanwhile, an exhibition of classic Chinese books kicked off at the National Museum of Classic Books, which is housed in the library. Works on display include three rare works from the Song Dynasty (960-1279). The rare works are only on display for a month, while the exhibition closes at a later date.
