BEIJING, May 13 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Li Zhanshu has called for an improved work mechanism for national lawmakers to better fulfill their roles.
Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) and a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks when presiding over a symposium on improving national lawmakers' work.
Noting that lawmakers' advice and suggestions are based on in-depth research and analysis, and are the reflections of people's wishes, Li called for more active responses to lawmakers' concerns.
The coordination and leading work of the NPC Standing Committee should be strengthened to better integrate lawmakers' work into the overall work of the Party and the state, Li said.
Exchanges between the NPC Standing Committee and lawmakers should be deepened and expanded, he added.
Li also called for improved quality of lawmakers' motions and their implementation, as well as more comprehensive media coverage of lawmakers' work.
