HARBIN, June 5 (Xinhua) -- China and Russia on Wednesday concluded a joint inspection on Heilong River, or the Amur River in Russia, with the purpose of cracking down on illegal fishing on the river.

A source of Heilongjiang provincial bureau of agriculture and rural affairs said that no illegal fishing activities were found in border river waters during the inspection which began on May 28.

During the nine-day inspection, fishery administrative officers from both countries discussed situation concerning fishery administration, especially management of fishing boats during a fishing ban, and exchanged views about promoting import and export of aquatic products from the border river waters and carrying out related scientific and research cooperation.

Deep, lasting cooperation between China and Russia in aspects such as fishery-related production and fish resources fostering in more than two decades has proven fruitful and played a positive role in boosting revenue of fishery and income of fishers on both sides.

Both sides said that they would work to step up cooperation among fishery departments for the Heilong River and its tributary the Wusuli River.
