DHAKA, July 26-- The Chinese embassy in Bangladesh has hosted a reception here to celebrate the 92nd anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) which falls on Aug. 1.
More than 300 guests including high-ranking officials, politicians, diplomats and scholars attended the reception on Thursday night.
Defense Attache of the Chinese embassy in Bangladesh Liu Fangjian gave a welcome speech at the reception, reviewing the PLA's achievements over the past 92 years and its contribution to world peace and stability.
He said China remains firm in pursuing an independent foreign policy of peace and a national defense policy that is defensive in nature.
"China is a major contributor to the UN Peacekeeping budget and the largest troop contributing country among the permanent members of the UN Security Council," Liu said.
He highlighted the steady and rapid progress in China-Bangladesh military cooperation in recent years. He said the bilateral relationship was upgraded to the strategic partnership of cooperation in 2016.
He added that Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid a successful and fruitful visit to China this month, injecting new impetus for cooperation between the two militaries.
