TIANJIN, China, Aug. 1 -- With world champion Chen Meng's excellent performance, Shandong claimed the 2019 Chinese National Table Tennis Championships women's team title here on Thursday, beating Bayi 3-2 in the final.
It was the first time for Shandong to win the title in eight years.
In the final featuring one doubles and four singles duels, Bayi's Chen Ke/Mu Zi beat Shandong's Wang Xiaotong/Gu Yuting 3-0 to put Bayi in a 1-0 lead.
Chen Meng upset Zhu Yuling 11-8, 11-6, 11-9 to make the overall score 1-1.
With Mu Zi's 3-1 victory over Gu Yuting, Bayi retook the lead at 2-1. But Shangdong levelled it again after 19-year-old Wang Xiaotong shocked Zhu Yuling 3-2.
In the decider, Chen Meng beat Chen Ke 3-1.
"The crucial and turning point was that Wang Xiaotong beat Zhu Yuling when we were in a desperate situation," Chen Meng said after the final.
