BEIJING, Aug. 21 -- Zang Tiewei, the first spokesperson of the Commission of Legislative Affairs of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, met the press for the first time Wednesday.
"The commission has decided to establish the spokesperson mechanism to strengthen and improve the publicity work of legislation in the new era", Zang told the media.
The duty of the spokesperson is to introduce the legislation arrangements of the NPC, the progress of related legislation work, as well as newly issued laws, he said.
The spokesperson works on both regular and irregular schedules. The regular press conference, on a bi-monthly basis, focuses on disclosing information about legislation and responding to public concerns after the chairpersons' meeting of the NPC Standing Committee and before the NPC Standing Committee session.
The spokesperson releases information or opinions on hotspot issues over legislative work on an irregular schedule, according to Zang.
