
MACAO, Sept. 26 -- The revenue of Macao's industrial sector totaled 11.07 billion patacas (about 1.37 billion U.S. dollars) in 2018, down by 4.1 percent year-on-year, the special administrative region's statistics service said on Thursday.
The latest report from Statistics and Census Service said that the expenditure of industrial sector in 2018 fell by 4.0 percent to 7.96 billion patacas (about 986.00 million U.S. dollars), while the gross surplus of the sector reduced by 4.3 percent to 3.11 billion patacas (about 385.23 million U.S. dollars).
The report said a total of 913 establishments were operating in the industrial sector, including manufacturing, electricity, gas and water supply in 2018, a year-on-year decrease of 20 percent. The total number of persons engaged in the industrial sector dropped by 190 to 12,313.
Within the manufacturing industry, the revenue of manufacture of cement and concrete dropped by 16.5 percent to 1.21 billion patacas (about 149.88 million U.S. dollars), marking the fourth consecutive year of decline due to a continued slowdown in the demand for cement and concrete following a decrease in local large-scale construction projects.
