As China is about to celebrate its 70th birthday on Oct. 1, a survey conducted by the China Youth Daily found that 58.5 percent of the respondents believe it is important to take actions to demonstrate love of their homeland.

The survey, conducted by the newspaper's survey center via Wenjuan.com, covers 2,004 respondents. Nearly 50 percent of the respondents were born in the 1980s and about 30 percent were born in the post-90s.

90.7 percent of the respondents said there are patriots around them. "Few people I know would say patriotic things all the time, but they act it out in their motions," said Li Yusen, a young man who was born in the 1990s.

He cited the example of his friend with the Chinese People's Liberation Army General Hospital. While serving as a doctor, he not only saves lives, but is also engaged in medical research, said Li.

Wang Zeyao, a soldier with the Beijing armed police force, said whoever does useful things for the country is expressing their love for the country, such as those who plant trees to improve the ecological environment.

Over 50 percent of the respondents think the love for the homeland is manifested in the fulfilling of their own duties which bring about enhancements for the comprehensive strength of the country.

Meanwhile, about half of them think that being a patriot involves observing the rules needed to maintain social stability and to respect the national flag, as well as the emblem and anthem.

96 percent of the respondents said they admire those who use their actions to express their love for the country. Those people tend to inspire others to be more patriotic, as 60.3 percent of the respondents said.
