BEIJING, Oct. 9 -- Hu Chunhua, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, has called for more high-quality efforts to win the battle against poverty.

Hu, also chief of the State Council leading group of poverty alleviation and development, made the remarks at a meeting.

Poverty alleviation has entered a crucial stage, He said, adding that efforts should be made to consolidate and expand the achievements in poverty relief.

Hu called for comprehensive and systematic inspections on the poverty alleviation work and rectifying problems exposed during the inspections and evaluations in time.

"We need to finish the inspections of the poverty alleviation work before the Spring Festival in 2020 and start the rectifications immediately after the festival to lay a solid foundation for winning the battle against poverty," Hu said.

He underlined that government officials should stay active and keep working hard in poverty alleviation without any slack, continue to lift the poor out of poverty and intensify follow-up support to households that have come out of poverty.
