The emergence of new professions in China has required authorities to build a social security system that supports new business and employment forms, China Youth Daily reported on October 15.
New employment platforms such as food ordering apps and shared business have created professions such as deliverymen, live-streaming presenters, and urban maintenance workers, among other occupations.
Per a survey conducted by a Chinese province, most graduates of a university were employed by new professions in 2018, while only 10 percent of graduates secured job by means of signing contracts with employers.
Xiao Gang, former chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, said unconventional and flexible labor relations have become a new trend of employment, requiring the authorities to establish a new labor relations system to cope with such a situation.
In addition, the young generations lay great emphasis on a good working environment, which demands employers to create a favorable working environment to attract more talent.
50-year-old Zhou Guorong is a bike maintenance worker of Alibaba-backed Hellobike in Chengdu. Before working for Hellobike, he was a garbage collector and lived on an unstable income. After learning how to use smartphones and the operating system of the Hellobike maintenance system, he now lives on a stable income by working for the company.
Hellobike has more than 30,000 maintenance workers nationwide, which are mostly migrant workers or people having difficulties securing jobs. 15 percent of the workers are aged between 40 and 50 years old.
