Tongxiang city in east China’s Zhejiang province aims to build a smart city with the help of 5G technology, city major Yu Huiyou revealed at a ministerial forum of the 6th World Internet Conference held in Wuzhen township on October 20.
Tongxiang has already built a smart government affairs system, said Yu. One thousand three hundred thirty-seven governmental affair items have now been finished online, and 95 certificates have been granted. Moreover, the city government departments have handled 1,252 administrative issues through a mobile app available to people across the province.
Ni Guangnan, an academician with the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said smart city planning and construction is vital, and Tongxiang should seize the opportunity brought by the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial reform.

He added that new internet companies might rise along with the promotion of 5G technology, and the existing internet giants will experience transformation and upgrading.
Ni said cybersecurity in the 5G era may be complicated, adding that efforts must be made to ensure that the internet is safe and security risks are controlled.
