The opening ceremony of the 2019 Chinese Root-Seeking Tour autumn camp kicked off in Lanzhou, capital of northwest China’s Gansu province, on Oct. 19.
During the seven-day event, 40 overseas Chinese youth and their guides from Thailand will experience the splendid Chinese culture along the ancient Silk Road.
The camp was hosted by the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and co-organized by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Gansu province and Zeno Academic Tours, a local company which focuses on education.
Xu Yanli, from the province’s Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, hoped that all participants would experience the inclusiveness of Chinese civilization and witness the cultural exchanges between East and West.
A camp representative said he was proud to see the significant progress and development achievements China has made over the past 70 years, adding that the camp will improve the Chinese proficiency and understanding of Chinese culture among participants.
The Chinese Root-Seeking Tour camp, organized by the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, debuted in 1999 to improve overseas Chinese youth’s understanding of their ancestral homes.
