Pandas at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding were finally able to frolic in the snow after artificial flakes made by the staff members covered the playgrounds of the cuddly animals on Dec. 25.

The staff members also placed various toys and built snowmen decorated with carrots, dates and apples for the giant pandas, in an attempt to get them to enjoy the white blanket – something that is rare in Chengdu, where the research base is located.

It is reported that the research base places great importance on animal welfare, and a variety of care activities are frequently held there. For instance, ice cubes of different sizes are given to the pandas in summer to play with and eat, and special cakes stuffed with iced apple, carrots and pumpkins are made for the pandas on their birthdays.
