SHANGHAI, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese tourists are expected to make 450 million domestic trips during the upcoming Spring Festival holiday, said a report released Tuesday by the country's major online travel agency Trip.com Group.
A total of 415 million trips were made across China during the Spring Festival holiday in 2019, up 7.6 percent compared with last year. About 4.6 billion domestic trips were made in the first three quarters this year, up 8.8 percent year on year.
"The rapid growth will continue during the week-long holiday beginning Jan. 24," said Peng Liang, a tourist data researcher with Trip. com Group.
Two thirds of the tourists having placed their orders on Trip.com will travel with their children or parents for the festival, a traditional occasion for family get-together.
Warm southern cities and northern snow and ice destinations are the most popular choices among both group visitors and independent travellers.
As more Chinese travel during holidays, the world will also benefit, said Peng. So far Chinese tourists have booked outbound trips to over 1,000 destinations in 102 countries and regions on Trip.com.
