The "Time Tower", a 15-meter-high tower-shaped showpiece consisting of 28 huge screens became a sensation at the Nanjing Youth Olympic Lighting Art Festival 2020, which was lit up on the last day of 2019.
Digital images and videos were projected onto the 28 screens, offering unique sensory experiences for the visitors.
"All the information displayed was on Nanjing and its Jianye District, and a part of the city's history," said Bing Yi, designer of the "Time Tower". Bing explained that the tower is a construction that demonstrates the beauty of light and information flow.
The design incorporated the culture of Jianye District. "The oldest flower fossil in the world was discovered in Nanjing, and it dates back 174 million years," Bing explained, adding that based on the combination of the visual characters for iris and lotus at Nanjing's Mochouhu Park, she designed a new flower which served as a major theme of her showpiece.
As one of the core projects of the Nanjing Youth Olympic Lighting Art Festival 2020, the "Time Tower" aimed to turn Nanjing into an ancient and mysterious crystal that shows its mysteries at night.
