
WUHAN, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Peng Yinhua, doctor of a Wuhan hospital that receives patients infected with the novel coronavirus, died from the virus Thursday night, according to the local health bureau.
Peng, 29, a respiratory acute care medical professional, became infected while working to combat the novel coronavirus at the First People's Hospital of Jiangxia District of Wuhan. He was hospitalized on Jan. 25 and transferred to Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital for treatment on Jan. 30.
He died from the virus at 9:50 p.m. Thursday despite doctors' all-out efforts to save his life at Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital.
Local health bureau of the Jiangxia District mourned the death of Peng and expressed condolences for his family.
Chinese health authorities have required local health agencies to promptly apply for the honor of martyr for deceased medical staff to the veteran's affairs authorities, comfort the families of the deceased and help solve their difficulties, as well as publicize stories of those who sacrificed their lives during the epidemic.
