Over 950,000 teachers set up 942,000 online courses, with students studying at home viewing the online material a total of 1.2 billion times.
To ensure the quality of online teaching, these teachers have taken various measures. Ma Jun, professor at the School of Environment, Harbin Institute of Technology, employed the instructional strategy "flipped classroom" for the water quality engineering course, leaving more in-class time for teacher-student interaction.
Internet and intelligence have showed their advantages while combined with education, said Wu Yan, Director of the Higher Education Department under the Ministry of Education, adding that modern information technologies have changed the ways of teaching and learning.
To make sure that students could conduct experiments at home, Zhu Guiping and Zeng Ming, both teachers at the Tsinghua University, mailed pocket instruments to students. Zhu Yerong, from Nankai University, helped students perform virtual experiments at home in the plant physiology course to improve the learning effect.
"The normal operation of the universities includes that of teaching, scientific research and daily work, with that of teaching coming first," said Qiu Yong, principal of the Tsinghua University, calling on both the teachers and students to make efforts and cut down the impact of the epidemic on teaching and learning.
