BEIJING, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Beijing will open an international floral show end of this month at the venue of the International Horticultural Exhibition 2019 Beijing (Beijing Expo 2019).
Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition Investment Development Co., Ltd. said Wednesday that it will hold the first Beijing International Garden Festival at the horticultural park from April 28 to October.
Zhang Lannian, chairman of the company, said the festival will be held annually to carry on the horticultural exhibition's spirit and demonstrate China's achievements in ecological development.
Drawing more than 9 million visitors in 162 days, the world's largest horticultural event held in the northern outskirts district of Beijing last year has reflected the boom of China's floral industry.
Zhang said during the upcoming festival, the floral landscape is expected to cover nearly 50,000 square meters in the park with more than 70 outdoor gardens.
He said the floral show will have a theme of "blending gardening into nature." It will hold competition activities of floral landscape developed by universities, scientific research institutes, enterprises and individuals. Visitors can attend horticultural science popularization and experience activities and seminars during the festival.
"The festival will be a platform for international exchanges on horticultural products, technologies and designs," said Zhang.
He said the venue will be used for a series of cultural and tourism activities in the future, such as music festivals and competitions.
