Sri Lanka allocates 500 mln rupees to upgrade school science labs
COLOMBO, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's Education Ministry has allocated 500 million rupees (about 1.66 million U.S. dollars) for 2025 under the Secondary Education Sector Improvement Program (SESIP) to purchase equipment and chemicals for Category 1AB and 1C school laboratories nationwide, the Department of Government Information announced on Wednesday.
Funds are being credited to the accounts of School Development Societies, with allocations based on student enrollment. Each school will receive up to 1 million rupees (about 3,333 dollars), with a minimum allocation of 40,000 rupees (about 133 dollars), the department said.
The initiative aims to strengthen practical science education and upgrade laboratory infrastructure in line with the government's broader education reforms, the department said.
