Mainland spokesperson warns DPP against seeking "Taiwan independence" through external support

BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- A mainland spokesperson on Wednesday warned Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities that seeking "Taiwan independence" by relying on external forces is a dead end.

Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks in response to a question about a recent visit to the Philippines by Lin Chia-lung, head of Taiwan's so-called foreign affairs authorities. Following Lin's trip, the Philippines issued statements that reiterated the country's adherence to the one-China policy, reaffirming that it does not recognize Taiwan as a sovereign state.

"No matter how the DPP authorities attempt to collude with external forces to instigate separatism, they cannot change the fact that Taiwan is part of China, nor can they shake the international community's broad consensus and established framework of adhering to the one-China principle," Chen said.

He stressed that the mainland firmly opposes any form of official exchanges between Taiwan and countries that have diplomatic relations with China, and strongly opposes providing platforms for "Taiwan independence" separatists to stage political stunts.
