The president of People’s Daily Online, Liao Hong, issued a report on the coverage index of Chinese media on mobile platforms last Thursday, assessing the force, influence and changes of China’s media on mobile Internet.
Data collection and analysis was conducted by the Internet Research Center of Wuhan University and edited by the research center of People’s Daily Online. The report examined the development of newspapers, magazines, broadcasts, and television on mobile platforms, as well as assessing the coverage and influence of these four traditional media.
According to China’s major mobile platforms, including Weibo (Twitter-like mircoblog), WeChat (mobile text and voice messaging communication service), and other mobile clients and mobile apps, the report assessed and graded the performances of 200 newspapers, 150 magazines, 136 TV programs in 46 TV stations (above provincial level), 102 broadcasting channels on mobile platforms, and produced four lists of top 100 newspapers, top 30 TV stations, top 100 TV programs and 20 broadcasting channels.
People’s Daily, China Newsweek, CCTV news channel, CCTV news, and China National Radio respectively took the No.1 spot on each list. Only People’s Daily, China Newsweek, and CCTV news channel were rated as 'satisfactory’; this means there is still plenty of room for China’s media to mature in terms of coverage and influence on mobile platforms.
