China has called on the international community to unite in fighting terrorism and religious extremism.
"Terrorism is a common enemy of mankind," Meng Jianzhu, head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, told the fifth international meeting of heads of security agencies in Kazan.
He said the international community should collaborate closely, improve mechanisms, deepen bilateral and multilateral anti-terror cooperation, and combat terrorism in a more efficient way to protect people's lives and property and safeguard social stability.
Religious extremism bred terrorism, he said. Thus, the international community needed to make joint efforts to formulate collaborated policies, take adequate precautions against and crack down on religious extremism in an endeavor to eradicate terrorism at its source.
During the two-day meeting that concluded on Friday, Meng also met representatives from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) and observers and reached broad consensus on such issues as strengthening law enforcement cooperation and combatting drug trafficking and organized crimes.
