KUNMING, July 4 -- Suspected food poisoning in a village in southwest China's Yunnan Province has left 22 people hospitalized. Among them, five were confirmed dead, authorities said Friday.
Twenty-two villagers in Baile Village of Babao Town, Guangnan County showed food poisoning symptoms after eating homemade traditional food last Friday, a spokesman of the county's publicity office said.
Five villagers were confirmed dead, and another five remain hospitalized, the spokesman said.
He said the cause of the poisoning is yet to be confirmed. Test results will be released Sunday.
