| Rescuers wait for work outside an entrance of the pit where a gas blast traps 17 miners at the No. 1 coal pit of Dhuangshan Yunxin Coal Mining Co., Ltd, 120 kilometers from Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, July 6, 2014. The blast happened at 8:43 p.m. on Saturday, when 20 people were working inside the mine. Three of them have been rescued. Rescuers are pouring nitrogen into the mine to dilute the gas concentration. The process, which was started early on Sunday morning, needs to be continued for 24 hours before it is safe to enter the pit, said rescuers. (Xinhua/Jiang Wenyao) |
