HANGZHOU, Sept. 28 -- The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) has been staging three-day meteorological and hydrological drills in multiple cities that will end on Sunday.
The exercise, code-named "Yunhai-2014," was organized by the PLA General Staff Headquarters and involves meteorological and hydrological troops from different military commands as well as staff with the State Oceanic Administration and China Coast Guard.
The multi-region drills aim to improve the ability to provide precise meteorological and hydrological information for military operations at sea, said Qian Zehong, director of the meteorological and hydrological bureau under the General Staff Headquarters.
Troops in Beijing, Nanjing, Fuzhou and Ningbo joined the Yunhai operation, which was first held in 2013.
