BEIJING, Oct. 9 -- Former Guangzhou Party chief Wan Qingliang was expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and removed from his public post, according to the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) on Thursday.
His case will be transferred to judicial departments; his stripped membership will be confirmed in the upcoming plenary session of the CPC Central Committee, according to a CCDI statement.
Investigations show that Wan sought profits for others by taking advantage of his post, demanding and accepting huge bribes. He also frequented high-end private clubs, which opposes CPC eight-point rules against extravagance and graft.
The statement said Wan "seriously" violated Party disciplines and laws and his bribe-taking was suspected of criminal acts.
The CCDI has opened an investigation on Wan, who was also an alternate member of the 18th CPC Central Committee and a former standing committee member of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee. The decision has been deliberated by the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau and based on disciplinary rules for Party members and government officials.
