Heads of states and governments, high-level representatives of the member countries and international organizations will attend the Extraordinary ALBA Summit, where they are expected to "coordinate regional cooperation" to help prevent the Ebola disease from spreading to the Latin American and the Caribbean region, Cuba's state daily Granma reported.
Founded in 2004, ALBA gathers Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Ecuador and Bolivia.
As of Wednesday, nearly 9,000 Ebola cases have been registered in West Africa, causing 4,484 deaths, according to WHO statistics.
