Central Street, which runs through the heart of Harbin, is a magnet for tourists. Almost as old as the 19th century city itself, this street has many western style buildings. After the construction of the Chinese Eastern Railway here in 1898, many Russian merchants arrived in the city, bringing their architecture and life style with them. Even today, many shops along the street sell Russian products.
